Adult Swim Serves Up Anthony Bourdain's "Get Jiro!" This Fall

Anthony Bourdain's cult-favorite graphic novel Get Jiro! is officially cooking up a storm, with Adult Swim reportedly setting its animated adaptation for a Fall premiere. Fans have long awaited this brutal culinary saga, which pits master chefs against each other in a dystopian Los Angeles. The news emerged from Variety's coverage of the Annecy International Animation Festival.
Showrunners Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka (Sharper, Superstore) bring the darkly comedic, action-packed vision to life. Tanaka describes a future L.A. where digital fulfillment is rampant, but real food is scarce. Chefs become powerful gangsters, literally killing for prestige. Into this bloody arena steps Jiro, a mysterious Japanese sushi chef, who expertly manipulates the factions, crafting a recipe for mayhem and revenge.
The series is poised to capture Bourdain's distinct voice, with his friend and collaborator Matt Goulding ensuring the food accuracy. Expect cinematic flair, too; Tanaka cites Kurosawa's Yojimbo as a key influence. The ten-episode run will expand beyond the original graphic novels, introducing new characters, including a chilling "cannibal" villain, and deepening existing storylines. Brian Tee, Garret Dillahunt, and Alison Pill lead a strong voice cast. Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, Get Jiro! promises to be a deliciously dangerous addition to Adult Swim's lineup.
