Get Jiro! Anime Adaptation Casts Titus Welliver, Alison Pill, Justin Kirk

Adult Swim's highly anticipated animated adaptation of Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose's cult comic, Get Jiro!, just dropped a fresh wave of casting news. Industry heavyweights Titus Welliver (Bosch), Alison Pill (Scott Pilgrim), and Justin Kirk (The Vampire Lestat) are joining the voice cast. They’ll star alongside previously announced Brian Tee and Garret Dillahunt, adding serious star power to this culinary combat series.

Showrunner Alessandro Tanaka (Sharper, Superstore) gave fans a taste of what to expect from the 10-episode half-hour series. Get Jiro! plunges viewers into a near-future Los Angeles, a dystopian landscape where chefs are literal gangsters. Why? Because in a world where digital fulfillment handles everything else, real food and taste are the last luxuries. Tanaka explains, "Chefs have become the most powerful people... they take each other out." Enter Jiro, a mysterious sushi chef who lands in LA, playing everyone against each other in a bloody culinary war. It’s all part of his grand recipe, packed with "food, mayhem, and violence."

Tanaka stressed the team's commitment to Bourdain's vision for food accuracy. Matt Goulding, a close friend and colleague of Bourdain’s, meticulously reviews every script and animatic to ensure authenticity. Visually, fans can expect a cinematic feast. Bourdain was a known cinephile, and the comic itself echoes Akira Kurosawa’s Yojimbo. Tanaka confirmed the series will embrace this, promising "very cinematic flair" in every episode.

Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the series isn't just a straight adaptation. Tanaka and co-writer Brian Gatewood are expanding the universe. Look out for new characters, including a "cannibal" villain, and deeper dives into the existing cast. Rick Morales directs, with Jonathan Hoekstra on artistic direction, promising a faithful yet fresh take on this wild, food-fueled ride.
