LEGO Reveals Squirtle Set, But Fans Face a Two-Year Wait

LEGO just announced an all-new Squirtle Smart Play set, but trainers will need to temper their excitement: it won't hit shelves until August 2026. Yes, that's a full two years from now for a $29.99 collectible.

This 322-piece set features an articulated Squirtle figure, a small buggy, a Poké Ball, and even a grill with a veggie burger. The real hook is LEGO's interactive "Smart Play" technology. An included Smart Tag lets Squirtle respond with lights and sounds when paired with Smart Bricks from larger LEGO Pokémon sets, like the Charizard vs. Jolteon or Pikachu Training House.

While a two-year lead time for a smaller set is certainly a head-scratcher, the interactive element shows LEGO is serious about expanding their Pokémon universe beyond static builds. Hopefully, it's worth the wait for this beloved Water-type starter.
