Marvel's Ultimate Universe Isn't Ending — It's Just Getting Started

Marvel's acclaimed Ultimate Universe is officially "ending" this week, but don't let the marketing fool you: this popular reimagining isn't going anywhere. The final page of Ultimate Universe Finale explicitly confirms the series will continue, with more details likely teased at San Diego Comic-Con.
Launched late last year with Jonathan Hickman and Bryan Hitch's Ultimate Invasion, this new Ultimate line quickly captivated readers. It presented a radically different Marvel Earth, controlled by the evil Maker, where classic heroes like Spider-Man and Captain America emerged under dystopian, altered circumstances. Think a married Peter Parker with a family or Cap waking up to a world without America. Titles like Ultimate Spider-Man, Ultimate X-Men, and Ultimate Black Panther have earned critical praise and commercial success, making its supposed "conclusion" a head-scratcher.
This isn't a true farewell. Fans can expect more information on its future, perhaps through "Ultimate Impact: Reborn," as the Ultimate X-Men and even a young Doctor Doom have been hinted at for continued stories. Marvel loves its surprise continuations, and this successful run clearly has more stories to tell.

Catzye Take
This is classic Marvel: a "finale" that's really a prelude. It's smart, though. The new Ultimate Universe has been a massive hit, proving there's still a hunger for bold, fresh takes on classic characters. Fans will want to watch SDCC for what's next; this could be a big moment for Marvel's reimagined future.
