MTG Legend Mark Rosewater Unveils 'Mood Swings,' A Decades-Long Passion Project

Mark Rosewater, the esteemed Head Designer of *Magic: The Gathering*, has finally unleashed a passion project nearly three decades in the making: *Mood Swings*. Released under Wizards of the Coast's premium Secret Lair brand, this new card game offers a distinctly different experience from its TCG powerhouse cousin.

*Mood Swings* isn't about complex deckbuilding. Instead, it’s a fast-paced, light strategy game for two to four players. Each session comes ready-to-play with 45 randomized cards, rule cards, and play aids. Rounds are quick: players play a card, tally scores, and the highest wins. Win three rounds, win the game. Cards embody emotions, dynamically shifting rules and the playfield as they're played.

Rosewater calls it his "love letter to trading card games," emphasizing its accessibility for both veteran TCG players and complete newcomers. He even designed it with families in mind, showcasing a team format for parents and children. *Mood Swings* is available now, with a 1st Edition for $25 and an Emotional Support Bundle for $120. It's a bold, personal statement from a titan of the genre.

"This game has been part of my life for almost 30 years," shared Mark Rosewater.

Catzye Take

This is a fascinating pivot for Mark Rosewater, stepping outside the direct *Magic: The Gathering* ecosystem for a personal project. It’s a testament to his enduring passion for card game design. Fans of accessible, innovative tabletop experiences should definitely check this out.
