Supergirl Film Gets "Completely Different" Script for New DCU Era

A fresh start isn't just a promise for James Gunn's DC Universe; it's a confirmed reality for Supergirl. Screenwriter Ana Nogueira revealed her script for the upcoming film is a complete page-one rewrite, scrubbing all traces of her previous draft for the prior DC era. This isn't just a slight tweak; Nogueira told CBR that "nothing carried over," calling the process "really brand new."
Fans who endured the chaotic previous era, including Sasha Calle's Supergirl appearance in the critically panned The Flash, will likely appreciate this clean slate. Nogueira's previous Supergirl script was part of that now-defunct continuity. Her experience with the character, however, proved invaluable for the new take. The current script draws heavily from Tom King and Bilquis Evely's acclaimed "Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow" comic, a significant shift promising a more grounded, introspective portrayal.
Milly Alcock steps into the role of Kara Zor-El, with Craig Gillespie directing. James Gunn and Peter Safran are producing, guiding this new vision. The film is set for a June 2026 release. Its story follows Kara Zor-El on an "interstellar journey of vengeance and justice" after an adversary strikes too close to home. This confirms DC Studios is fully committed to carving out its own identity, free from the baggage of what came before.

This commitment to a clean slate is exactly what the DCU needs after years of inconsistent storytelling. Fans will appreciate Nogueira's dedication to "Woman of Tomorrow," a fantastic comic that promises a more mature, compelling take on Kara. Keep an eye on how this film sets the tone for the wider DCU.
