Kōsuke Fujishima

7The Inquiry · 61

藤島 康介

Born 1964

The creator of Ah! My Goddess and You're Under Arrest, and a character designer for the Tales video games.

7Seven — inquiry. That is the reduction of this name, and the shelf it is read from.

Career

Kōsuke Fujishima was born in 1964. His first series, You're Under Arrest (1986–1992), in Kodansha's Morning, follows two women police officers in Tokyo, one of them a brilliant mechanic.

The work

Ah! My Goddess (1988–2014) became his life's work, running for 26 years. He also designed characters for several games in the Tales series of role-playing games.

The style

Fujishima loves machines, especially cars and motorcycles, and draws them in precise, affectionate detail. His character art became steadily more refined and elegant over his career.

Why he matters

His gentle romantic comedy shaped a whole genre, and his designs for Belldandy and the Tales characters are widely recognised.

The name by its numbers

Kōsuke19Fujishima42total61 → 7
人格 core21 → 3総格 total43 → 7born1964 → 2

Every letter here carries a digit; together they make 61, which folds down to 7. The weight sits in “Fujishima”, which carries 42 on its own and reduces to 6.

Seven is analyst & seeker — analysis, secrecy, and the search for truth. The reference files it as an open question. Read that way, what the entry is really recording is the 7's pull toward the hidden and the unresolved.

The vowels alone reduce to 9, the consonants to 7. Reckoning underneath, inquiry on the surface. The gap between them is where the subject is most interesting.

人格 core is 21, a 3, 総格 total is 43, a 7 and born is 1964, a 2. That the 7 turns up in 総格 total as well as in the letters is the sort of coincidence this reference collects rather than explains.

The 7 mistakes withholding for depth. Some works filed here are obscure because they are unfinished, not because they are deep. What the 7 still asks is that you sit with the part that was never explained. The other entries that reduce to 7 are collected on The Inquiry.
