原 泰久
Born 1975
The Saga-born former systems engineer whose Kingdom became the defining war epic of contemporary manga. 50 in the letters, reducing to 5.
5The letters of this name total 50, a 5 — the number of freedom, disruption, and restless movement.
Yasuhisa Hara was born in 1975 in Saga Prefecture. He worked as a systems engineer before turning to manga, and served as an assistant to Takehiko Inoue on Vagabond.
Kingdom began in Weekly Young Jump in 2006 and has occupied him since. It recounts the wars by which the state of Qin unified China, through the eyes of a soldier who rises from slavery to command.
Hara's battles are planned like campaigns, with maps, formations and the reasoning of commanders made explicit. His crowd scenes and charges carry a physical weight that recalls his time in Inoue's studio, and his generals are given larger-than-life presences that make the scale of the war legible.
Kingdom won the Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize Grand Prize in 2013 and has sold in very large numbers in Japan, supporting live-action films and a long-running anime adaptation.
Counted letter by letter this name comes to 50 — 5 once reduced. The weight sits in “Yasuhisa”, which carries 31 on its own and reduces to 4.
The reference files it as a turn. The number's contribution is freedom, disruption, and restless movement — and with it the 5's restlessness and hunger for change, which is the thread the reference follows here.
Split the name again and the vowels give a Heart's Desire of 7 (inquiry) against a Personality of 7 (inquiry) in the consonants — the subject wants exactly what it appears to want, which is inquiry — an unusually undivided reading.
人格 core is 20, a 2, 総格 total is 23, a 5 and born is 1975, a 22. That the 5 turns up in 総格 total as well as in the letters is the sort of coincidence this reference collects rather than explains.
Read on the 5's terms, this entry asks you to ask what was abandoned, and whether it deserved to be. The 5 moves for the sake of moving. Not every break documented here led anywhere, and the reference says so where it did not. The other entries that reduce to 5 are collected on The Turn.
