Crimson Justice Vanishes: Mad Cave Explores Hero Burnout in New Mystery

Where did Empire City’s greatest hero go? The Crimson Justice vanished decades ago. Now, a brutal murder by a resurrected Dr. Mayhem forces the question: Whatever Happened to the Crimson Justice? Mad Cave Studios launches a compelling new mystery comic, from Eisner-nominated creators Frank Tieri (writer) and Inaki Miranda (artist). This isn't just a superhero comeback; it’s a deep dive into burnout and betrayal.
The Crimson Justice, his sidekick Reddy, and arch-nemesis Dr. Mayhem all disappeared after the Great Empire City Hospital Fire — forty years ago. Empire City has lived without its crimson-clad protector ever since, leaving fans to wonder if he simply rage-quit or met a more tragic end.
But silence is shattered. Dr. Mayhem has returned, brutally murdering Commissioner Thomas Kent and issuing a direct challenge for the Justice to re-emerge. Preview pages show a classic Red Alert beacon flaring back to life after all these years, a desperate call answered by a chilling return. We also glimpse a mysterious figure claiming rumors of their death were "greatly exaggerated," followed by a rather permanent "career counseling via blade."
“What could make a hero abandon his mantle for forty years?”
More Stories
Tieri, known for his gritty takes, and Miranda, whose dynamic art graced titles like HARLEY QUINN and CATWOMAN, are perfectly positioned to unravel this complex narrative. What truly happened that fateful night? What could make a hero abandon his mantle for forty years? If he’s alive, how will he confront a world that moved on, and a villain who never truly left? This comic promises a tense, character-driven mystery about the lasting consequences of heroics and villainy.
Catzye Take
This series looks like a gritty take on classic superhero tropes, which we've seen resonate well lately. Fans who enjoy the darker, more grounded side of hero stories, or who appreciate Tieri and Miranda's past work, will definitely want to pick this up. The concept of a hero truly quitting offers fresh ground.
Numerological Reading
Reading: Frank Tieri
Read through its central name, Frank Tieri, this story reduces to a Destiny 3 — Creative Communicator. Its vibration — communication, creativity, and the public stage — is a lens for the 3's instinct to turn everything into a story worth telling.
The 3 is the storyteller — expressive, social, and endlessly creative. It shines on the public stage and scatters its gifts when it refuses to focus.
How the numbers are built
- Destiny
- 57 → 12 → 3 = 3
- Heart
- 24 → 6 = 6
- Personality
- 33 = 33
The subject is reduced with standard Pythagorean numerology — each letter mapped to a digit 1–9, summed, and reduced to a single digit or master number. A lens for paying attention, not a forecast.
