Gutiérrez, the acclaimed creator behind The Book of Life, made an unprecedented move: he pulled his new animated series Punky Duck from an Amazon AI-funded program just 72 hours after its announcement. He declared himself "the first creator to kill their own show a day and a half after announcing it." It was a swift, dramatic capitulation following intense fan outcry.

Fans were aghast when Amazon's GenAI Creators' Fund listed Gutiérrez, a vocal artist advocate, among its initial projects. This felt like a betrayal. He initially defended his participation, hoping to ensure "artists driving tech," drawn by the appeal of a quick greenlight for an original idea.
