My Adventures with Superman Season 3 Unleashes Cyborg Superman, Teases 90s Superboy

My Adventures with Superman Season 3 is about to crash onto Adult Swim's Toonami block this weekend, and showrunners Jake Wyatt and Brendan Clogher just dropped a Kryptonian-sized info bomb.

MAWS Season 3 is diving headfirst into the iconic "Reign of the Supermen" storyline. Showrunner Jake Wyatt confirmed Cyborg Superman, aka Hank Henshaw, is here right out the gate. But don't expect a carbon copy of the 1993 comics. Instead, the team explores: "What's a Superman?" It's less about death, more about imposters with the same powers but different values.

Speaking of imposters, Superboy makes his debut, voiced by Darren Criss. This isn't just a clone pushing Clark's buttons. Wyatt describes a 90s-inspired, leather-jacket-rocking Superboy embodying the tension between hope in the present and fear in the future. He was a fan-favorite for the writers and artists, and they're set to complicate him throughout the season. Lex Luthor remains a "huge part" of the narrative, acting as the embodiment of fear driving the season's action.

Lantern is inspired by a very different part of the same Toonami block.

For those wondering about "My Adventures with Green Lantern," there's a quick Jessica Cruz cameo. The spin-off is in pre-production, waiting for its official green light. Wyatt teased its animation is shipping soon, confirming its unique anime inspiration: "Our take on Superman is very obviously inspired by Dragon Ball Z... Lantern is inspired by a very different part of the same Toonami block."

This season sees Clark fully embrace Superman, at peace with his Kryptonian roots. Lois, now a star reporter, isn't ready to settle down. Jimmy is a celebrity journalist, navigating Kara Zor-El's (Kiana Madeira) romantic attention as she finds her place. This found family faces powerful new enemies, testing their bonds and threatening their future.

Catzye Take

This is a significant shift for MAWS, moving beyond origin stories into deeper lore while maintaining its distinct anime flair. Fans will want to watch how they adapt "Reign of the Supermen" without a literal Death of Superman. What's most intriguing is the Green Lantern spin-off's tease of a "different" Toonami inspiration — could we see a more classic shonen or even mecha influence?
