Yoshito Usui
1The Opening · 55臼井 儀人
Born 1958
The creator of Crayon Shin-chan, whose rude, lovable five-year-old became a national icon.
1Name sums to 55 and reduces to 1 — The Opening, where the reference files a first move.
Career
Yoshito Usui was born in Shizuoka Prefecture in 1958 and grew up in Kasukabe, Saitama, the town where Shin-chan lives. He made his debut in Futabasha's magazines in the 1980s.
The work
Crayon Shin-chan began in Weekly Manga Action in 1990 and became one of the most successful manga and anime franchises in Japan.
The style
Usui's drawing is simple and quick, suited to gags, and his humour is rude, absurd and observant about the frustrations of family life, work and money.
Why he matters
He created one of Japan's most famous characters. He died in 2009 in a fall while hiking on Mount Arafune, and his assistants continued the manga as New Crayon Shin-chan.
The name by its numbers
Set against the Pythagorean table, the name totals 55. Reduced, that is 1. The weight sits in “Yoshito”, which carries 39 on its own and reduces to 3.
The reference files it as a first move. The number's contribution is beginnings, leadership, and the will to act alone — and with it the 1's appetite for a clean, decisive beginning, which is the thread the reference follows here.
Beneath the 1 sit two smaller figures: 9 in the vowels, 1 in the consonants. Reckoning underneath, initiative on the surface. The gap between them is where the subject is most interesting.
人格 core is 19, a 1, 総格 total is 27, a 9 and born is 1958, a 5. That the 1 turns up in 人格 core as well as in the letters is the sort of coincidence this reference collects rather than explains.
Read on the 1's terms, this entry asks you to notice what had to not exist for this to be possible. The 1 mistakes being first for being right. Several of these texts describe launches that mattered enormously for a year and then mattered to nobody. The other entries that reduce to 1 are collected on The Opening.
