6The letters of this title total 96, a 6 — the number of care, community, and the weight of duty.
Hirohiko Araki began JoJo's Bizarre Adventure in Weekly Shōnen Jump in 1987. It is structured as a series of parts, each following a different member or incarnation of the Joestar family, from Victorian England to present-day Japan and beyond. The series moved to the monthly Ultra Jump in 2005, during its seventh part, and is still running.
Its third part introduced the Stand: a fighting spirit with a single, specific ability. Stands turned the series' battles from contests of strength into puzzles. A fight is won by working out what an opponent's power actually does and finding the loophole, and some of the most celebrated battles are fought with abilities that seem useless.
Araki's style is instantly recognisable: poses taken from fashion photography and classical sculpture, sound effects drawn as part of the composition, colour schemes that change from one illustration to the next. The poses became a fan ritual in their own right.
The Stand mechanic became one of the most imitated ideas in shonen manga, the model for countless power systems in which every ability has rules. The series has been running in some form for nearly four decades, and its 2012 anime adaptation brought it a large new international audience.
Counted letter by letter this title comes to 96 — 6 once reduced. The weight sits in “Bizarre”, which carries 43 on its own and reduces to 7.
The reference files it as an obligation. The number's contribution is care, community, and the weight of duty — and with it the 6's pull toward responsibility, care, and the people involved, which is the thread the reference follows here.
Split the title again and the vowels give a Heart's Desire of 5 (change) against a Personality of 1 (initiative) in the consonants — change underneath, initiative on the surface. The gap between them is where the subject is most interesting.
総画 strokes is 56, an 11 and debut year is 1987, a 7 — none of which lands on the 6 the title gives. That disagreement is worth more than an agreement would be: it marks the gap between what a work is called and what it is.
Read on the 6's terms, this entry asks you to name the people this was answerable to. The 6 smothers. The same instinct that protects a readership produces the paternalism several of these entries document. The other entries that reduce to 6 are collected on The Care.
