ファイアパンチ · Faia Panchi
In a frozen world, a man who regenerates endlessly is set on fire that will never go out, and lives on only for revenge. The title reduces to 1 — the opening.

1One — initiative. That is the reduction of this title, and the shelf it is read from.
Tatsuki Fujimoto's Fire Punch ran on Shueisha's Shōnen Jump+ app from 2016 to 2018 and was collected in eight volumes. The world has been frozen by an "Ice Witch". Agni, a young man with the power to regenerate, has fed his starving village by cutting off his own limbs. When a soldier with unquenchable fire burns the village, Agni survives, burning forever, and sets out for revenge.
The premise is extreme and so is the execution. The story swerves constantly: into the making of a film within the story, into religion built around Agni's suffering, and finally into a cosmic scale nobody expected. Fujimoto uses shock, black comedy and sudden tenderness in equal measure.
Underneath the violence, Fire Punch is about performance and identity: Agni is forced to play the role of a hero, a god and a monster for others, and loses track of who he is. The question of whether a person can be anything other than what others need them to be runs through it.
It was Fujimoto's first serialised work and announced the voice that made Chainsaw Man a phenomenon: cinematic layouts, abrupt tonal shifts and a refusal to follow genre expectations.
The arithmetic is unremarkable and worth doing anyway: 55 across 2 words, reducing to 1. The weight sits in “Fire”, which carries 29 on its own and reduces to 11.
What the 1 brings is initiative. The reference files it as a first move. Whatever else this entry is doing, it is doing it with the 1's appetite for a clean, decisive beginning.
Heart's Desire 8, Personality 11: power underneath, vision on the surface. The gap between them is where the subject is most interesting.
The letters give 1; the subject's own figures do not agree. 総画 strokes is 15, a 6, volumes is 8, years serialised is 3 and debut year is 2016, a 9. Where the two part company the reference trusts the figures, because a title is a decision somebody made about the thing, and these are the thing.
The 1 asks you to notice what had to not exist for this to be possible. The 1 mistakes being first for being right. Several of these texts describe launches that mattered enormously for a year and then mattered to nobody. The other entries that reduce to 1 are collected on The Opening.
