藤本 タツキ
Born 1992
The creator of Chainsaw Man and Fire Punch, whose film-literate structure and tonal instability made him the most imitated new voice in shonen. The name reduces to 3 — the telling.
3Filed under 3. The Telling takes an act of telling, and this entry is performs one.
Tatsuki Fujimoto established himself with Fire Punch before Chainsaw Man began in Weekly Shonen Jump in 2018. His short works, including one-shots about creative labour and grief, are held in unusually high regard for standalone pieces.
Cinematic construction. Fujimoto's film references are explicit and structural rather than decorative. He composes and cuts in ways closer to film than to conventional manga layout, and his interest in horror and exploitation cinema shows in how sequences are built, not just what they depict.
Tonal instability, deliberately. He moves between crude comedy, sudden brutality and genuine grief within single chapters, refusing to settle. The unpredictability is the effect, and it is what makes his violence land.
Protagonists who want nothing. His leads frequently lack ambition entirely, which is a direct rejection of the shonen template and lets him ask what happens when someone with no goals is handed enormous violence.
His one-shots about artistic ambition, envy and loss are frequently cited as among the best short manga of recent years, and are a better entry point than his serialised work for readers unsure about the tonal swings.
The whiplash does not work for everyone, and the crudeness of his openings puts some readers off before the structure becomes visible.
The arithmetic is unremarkable and worth doing anyway: 57 across 2 words, reducing to 3. The weight sits in “Fujimoto”, which carries 37 on its own and reduces to 1.
What the 3 brings is expression. The reference files it as an act of telling. Whatever else this entry is doing, it is doing it with the 3's instinct to turn everything into a story worth telling.
Heart's Desire 1, Personality 2: initiative underneath, cooperation on the surface. The gap between them is where the subject is most interesting.
人格 core is 8, 総格 total is 32, a 5 and born is 1992, a 3. That the 3 turns up in born as well as in the letters is the sort of coincidence this reference collects rather than explains.
The 3 asks you to watch the technique rather than the plot it is carrying. The 3 talks past the point. Where an entry here runs long, it is usually because the technique was more fun to describe than it was important. The other entries that reduce to 3 are collected on The Telling.
